Windows in 2026 is Microsoft's most AI-ambitious release ever. On Copilot+ PCs, the standout features are Recall (see everything you've done on your PC), Click to Do (select any on-screen content to act on it), Super Resolution in Photos, Windows Studio Effects, Live Captions with translation, and the always-available Copilot key.
You need a Copilot+ PC (Snapdragon X, Intel Core Ultra Series 2, or AMD Ryzen AI 300+) to unlock the full set.
Copilot+ PC is Microsoft's branding for Windows 11 and Windows 12 machines with a 40+ TOPS NPU (neural processing unit), enabling on-device AI for the full feature set. Standard Windows 11 PCs still get Copilot (cloud) but miss Recall, Super Resolution, and Click to Do.
1. Recall. Press the Recall key (Win + J) → scrub a timeline of everything you've seen/done on your PC → find that document, webpage, or conversation you can't remember.
2. Click to Do. On any screen, press Win + Click → drag over text/image → actions appear: Summarize, Translate, Visual Search, Rewrite, Send to Outlook.
3. Super Resolution in Photos. Right-click any low-res image → Enhance → choose 2x, 4x, or 8x upscale — runs on-device in seconds.
4. Live Captions + translation. Win + Ctrl + L → caption any audio in the system (YouTube, Zoom, podcast) with real-time translation.
5. Windows Studio Effects. Video call apps automatically get AI background blur, eye contact, portrait light, and voice focus on Copilot+ PCs.
6. Copilot in the taskbar. Press the Copilot key → full ChatGPT-grade assistant with Windows actions ("Toggle dark mode," "Open my last three docs," etc.).

Step 1. Buy or upgrade to a Copilot+ PC (Surface Pro 11, Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga 9i, HP OmniBook — any with a 40 TOPS NPU).
Step 2. Update to Windows 11 24H2 or Windows 12. Settings → Windows Update.
Step 3. Enable Recall: Settings → Privacy & security → Recall & snapshots → Turn on. Takes ~15 minutes to seed the index.
Step 4. Try Click to Do: press Win + Click, drag over any text or image, pick an action.
Step 5. Press the Copilot key (or Win + C) to open Copilot. Try: "Draft a project update email based on my last three Teams chats."
Is Recall privacy-safe? Recall is opt-in, encrypted on-device with Windows Hello, and never leaves the PC. You can exclude apps and websites.
Does Copilot+ need a cloud subscription? No for most features (Recall, Click to Do, Super Resolution run on-device). Copilot Pro ($20/mo) unlocks GPT-4o and priority access.
Which chips qualify? Snapdragon X Elite/Plus, Intel Core Ultra Series 2 (Lunar Lake+), AMD Ryzen AI 300+ — all 40+ TOPS NPU.
Can I get Recall on an older PC? No — it requires the NPU. Other Copilot features work on most Windows 11 PCs.
Is my data sent to Microsoft? On-device features stay local. Cloud Copilot sends queries to Azure with standard Microsoft privacy terms.
Does it work on Arm PCs? Yes — Snapdragon X Copilot+ PCs have full support, including via Prism emulation for x86 apps.
Windows 2026 on a Copilot+ PC is the fastest way to experience on-device AI. Recall alone is a time-travel feature most users never knew they needed. If you're shopping for a new laptop, make sure it says "Copilot+ PC" on the box.
Try it now: Press the Copilot key → ask "What's new on my PC today?"
